Marion County Democrats Endorse Mai Vang For Ward 6

Salem City Council Candidate Mai Vang Best Suited for Long-Term Vision

[Salem, OR, March 23, 2025] – During the Marion County Democratic Central Committee meeting of March 20, Marion County Democrats unanimously endorsed Mai Vang for Salem City Council, Ward 6.

“Mai Vang is the only candidate Ward 6 voters can trust with their support,” said Marion County Democrats Chair Paige Barton. “Vang has shown a deep understanding of our community’s issues and is guided by a forward-thinking vision for improvement. She will represent a unique immigrant experience on our City Council and bears impressive qualifications. No question exists that Mai Vang is our best choice for Salem City Councilor.”

Because of anti-LGBTQ social media posts, the Marion County Democrats notified Ward 6 candidate Logan Lor last month that he was ineligible for consideration of endorsement.

“I notified Mr. Lor that he was ineligible for our support for taking public positions that conflict with equity values long contained within the Democratic Party’s platform. Mr. Lor replied to me that he is a Christian,” said Barton. “We believe Mr. Lor is unfit to serve the City of Salem not only for his homophobic, divisive positions, but also for his inability to separate his spiritual and public personas. In our dealings, Mr. Lor accused us of being prejudiced against him for his religion.”

“We can only conclude that Lor lacks accountability necessary for leadership and seems to believe he can recreate his position now that he is running for office. All voters would be right to be deeply suspicious of Mr. Lor.”

Ward 6 voters should check their registration for accuracy by April 29, 2025, to vote in the May 20 election.
