The focus of the Neighborhood Leader Program (the NLP) is to impact Democratic and Progressive leaning voters by staying engaged with our neighbors on the Precinct level. You will educate and motivate fellow Democratic voters about Democratic candidates and issues.
The NLP visit is often the most influential contact many voters will have during an election, making it an invaluable opportunity to win a Democratic vote.
Neighborhood Leaders make personal contact with 35 of their neighbors who are registered Democrats, informing them about current candidates, issues, ballot measures, etc., and encouraging them to vote.
Direct contact with voters is the most effective way of increasing Democratic turn out during elections, and the best way to communicate our progressive values and accomplishments.
How it works
- We will prepare a walk list for you. If you have been a Neighborhood Leader before, it will be a list like the one you’ve walked in the past. It will be updated to show new Democratic registrants and people who have moved will be removed.
- You will be notified when the county party slate cards are available and you can begin contacting your neighbors.
- When you have completed the voter contact, and filled in your walk sheet, you may return the signature sheets to our office or enter your contact data on our website. When you use the NLP website, you can enter information about voter contact multiple times, assuring the information is most up-to-date.
NLP began as a grassroots voter contact effort by the Washington County Democrats. Today county parties throughout Oregon have NLP voter contact efforts.
