It’s time to show up again! We’re calling on community members to join us at the Marion County Commissioners meeting on September 17 at 9 AM at 555 Court St NE, Salem to provide public comment opposing the county’s federal lawsuit challenging Oregon’s sanctuary laws.
Marion County filed this lawsuit in August after receiving ICE administrative subpoenas (not judicial), claiming they need “clarity” on whether to follow state sanctuary protections or federal immigration enforcement demands.
However, this lawsuit threatens to undermine Oregon’s four-decade-old sanctuary law that prohibits local governments from using resources to assist federal immigration enforcement – a law that protects our immigrant neighbors, supports our agricultural community, and reflects the values Marion County voters affirmed in 2018 with Ballot Measure 105.
Come ready to speak truth to power – your community needs you there! Together, we can defend the sanctuary protections that make Oregon a place where all people can live with dignity and safety. Your voice matters in holding our elected officials accountable to our tax dollars, to uphold state law, and protect all residents of our community.
***Meeting is in the Senator Hearing Room. Public comments limited to 2 minutes.
